Hiatus

by Misfit Cygnet on May 15, 2012 · 10 comments

As you may have noticed, I have been not writing here a lot lately. I have been very pregnant, and I don’t like writing satire or controversy when I am so close to having a baby!

So, the Cygnet is on hiatus until summer, at least…I am actually working on trying to learn how to approach “hot button” issues with more nicety, so I don’t know if the Cygnet will continue as it is now…we’ll see.

I am also moving from Utah, so I may not have so much to write about in the future (although I suppose I will continue being deceived and writing about it no matter where I live!). We shall see! In the meantime, I do have another blog which I have been updating prolifically since being on strict bedrest:

J & M Ranch

I have reworked some posts from the Cygnet, trying to practice more diplomacy and less whatever it is that is the opposite of diplomacy that I do here that deeply offends so many so often. :)

The purposes of my other blog are not really the same as this one, so it’s a bit different, a lot more “girly” and may not be of any interest whatsoever to you. That’s okay. But, if you have missed me, that’s where I am most of the time right now.

Have a great May and June!

Are Mormons Christians? Sometimes It’s Hard To Tell

by Misfit Cygnet April 15, 2012

I have lived in Utah for almost four years, and in that time, I have endured many sacrament meetings that never mentioned Christ, except to add briefly at the end of the speech or prayer that all of the feel-good movie recommendations, acceptances of mission calls, gratitude for moisture, and urges for political activism were [...]

Weighing In On The Hunger Games

I have put my Hunger Games posts up at the front of the blog just as a reminder of why this is wrong on so many levels. If you’d like the individual links, the first article, addressing the pornography of violence, is here. The second article is here. There is a third regarding moral relativism [...]

Mormons and Millstones: Abuse and Mormon Culture

Thumbnail image for Mormons and Millstones: Abuse and Mormon Culture

Such abuse is not new. There is evidence to indicate that it goes back through the ages. It is a most despicable and tragic and terrible thing. I regret to say that there has been some very limited expression of this monstrous evil among us. It is something that cannot be countenanced or tolerated. The [...]

A few years ago, my college age daughter had to break the news to her roommate when she saw the offending quote glued into her scriptures.  She tried to break it gently: “The Church has come out with a statement about that quote.  Would you like to see it?” Then she showed her roommate the [...]

Contemplating Privatizing The Cygnet

I am thinking about going private with this blog–meaning that only those who have registered may read it.  I am not sure if I will, or when, but I do think that it is nearly time to do it.  I may leave registration open for awhile, but I am not sure…. I really do write [...]

Preaching The Gospel 101: Countering Ark Culture As A Full-Time Missionary

M Missionaries on Preparation Day  There are many wonderful talks and articles about preparing for missionary service.  I believe that most Latter-day Saints who are not immersed in the culture of Babylon do everything they can to prepare their children, spiritually, physically, and emotionally for the actual service part of being a missionary.  They understand [...]

The Question of Deception: Mormon Ark Culture “Reinvents Modesty”

“If I were with Jesus Christ, would I feel comfortable with my appearance?” At any given meeting in any given ward in most areas of the United States (and most likely anywhere in countries where there is access to internet and television), it is almost impossible to distinguish Mormons as “modest,” nor, just from observing [...]

The Question of Deception: Giving The Gift of Pornography To Children For Christmas

If you have a little girl who is between 5-10 years old, then you might want to be aware that one of the hottest gifts this Christmas are pornographic, half-human/half-beast, emaciated dolls.  Most parents don’t have a problem with them.  They say they are not concerned about the way the dolls look, because, “hey, they [...]

Breaking With Family Christmas Traditions To Make Room For Something Better

Thumbnail image for Breaking With Family Christmas Traditions To Make Room For Something Better

Years after we made a break from the tradition of presents at Christmas, we have found more joy, peace, and goodwill toward each other, our fellow men, and in our hearts at this time of year than I ever could have imagined.  Explaining that is almost impossible–I guess it could be considered one of the [...]

Celebrating Christmas and Experiencing Christ

“Merry Christmas, Marmee! Many of them!” they all cried in chorus. “Merry Christmas, little daughters! But I want to say one word before we sit down. Not far away from here lies a poor woman with a little newborn baby. Six children are huddled into one bed to keep from freezing, for they have no [...]
